Course 6655: Configuring and Hosting Windows Communication Foundation Services

Introduction In this 2-hour on-line course application developers will learn how to host your WCF service. Topics covered in this course include:

• Programmatically Configuring a Managed Application to Host a WCF Service
• Calling a Service from a Managed Application by Using Programmatic Configuration
• Defining Service Settings by Using External Configuration Files
• Selecting a Hosting Option for a WCF Service
• Hosting a WCF Service
• Deploying a WCF Service

This course will also prepare you for exam 70-503 TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Windows Communication Foundation.

Student prerequisites

To get the most out of this course the target audience should have previous experience with Windows Visual Studio development system. Objectives At the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Create a programmatically-configured managed application that self-hosts a WCF service.
• Call a WCF service hosted in a managed application by using programmatic configuration.
• Define WCF service settings by using external configuration.

• A Pentium II, 256 MB RAM with a processor speed greater than or equal to 400 MHZ
• Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher

• Microsoft Silverlight 4.0 or higher
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 or higher
• Microsoft XML Core Services 3.0 or higher
• A Super VGA monitor with minimum screen resolution 1024x768, with 16-bit color.
• A sound card, and either speakers or headphones (for multi-media audio).
• Internet bandwidth of 56K or faster. Broadband internet access is recommended.
