5. EMBA FACULTY INTERVIEW (and Why We Do Not Require a
GMAT)
Every applicant to the EMBA program will be interviewed by two
faculty who teach in the program. The interview which lasts about
one hour is conducted jointly by the faculty, usually during an
applicant's visit during a residency. (Conference call phone
interviews can be scheduled for those living a considerable
distance from New York.)
The interview is structured around a series of open ended questions
asked of all applicants. It's designed to get to know you, to
understand your reasons for getting an MBA, and to review your
career achievements and goals.
We were one of the pioneer schools in dropping the GMAT and
substituting the faculty interview in its place. In our studies, we
have found little correlation between GMAT scores and academic
performance in an EMBA program whose students are experienced
managers and professionals. To us, career advancement and
motivation are the drivers that ensure success in our program. As
an added benefit, our interview process gives applicants a chance
to ask questions about the program, and for faculty to have a
direct input in the admissions decision.
