The MS in quantitative methods and modeling program is designed to train students in the application of mathematical models and decision making in business, industry, and government. This is also the aim of the MBA program in decision sciences, which is also offered by the Department of Statistics and Computer Information Systems. Both programs provide students with the concepts and skills that form the fundamental base of knowledge essential to quantitative-decision-making professionals in today's business environment. The MS program in quantitative methods and modeling is intended for individuals who wish to be employed as quantitative analysts or for those students who may wish to subsequently pursue a PhD in operations research or a related field. This program is designed to provide a broad spectrum of basic quantitative skills; thus, the required specialization courses span the areas of operations research, statistics, and computer information systems. The flexible elective requirements permit the creation of a four-course quantitative sequence tailored to the student's professional and/or educational objectives. Although this MS program has a business orientation, it does not include the many general business courses found in the MBA in decision sciences program.
