Electives and Internships

Several unique features have established W. P. Carey as one of the top MBA programs, but the electives and internship opportunities have proven to be especially effective in helping students meet their goals. Toward the end of the first year, you select from a number of specialization or elective offerings. To further support your career goals, you complete a required internship during the summer between the first and second year of the program.

In the second year, you continue with several courses in your selected specialization. Additional elective courses may be taken to build knowledge in other areas, to select a second specialization or to complete an area of emphasis.

International and Off-Site Electives

The W. P. Carey MBA offers a number of international and off-site learning opportunitiesthat allow you to participate in a variety of international electives abroad. A course in business and public policy also is offered in Washington, D.C. These courses are typically held in January, May or during break periods that minimize conflict with regular courses.

To gain a more fully rounded MBA experience, it is recommended that you also choose an international elective, taken in the summer between your first and second year. International electives are offered prior to the beginning of most internships, allowing you the flexibility to complete both.

Information sessions are available throughout the year to provide you with details regarding the cost, application process and course dates.
