Welcome to Virginia Tech MBA!  We are excited that you are considering applying to our nationally-ranked full-time MBA program. We realize the process to apply to an MBA program can be daunting, so we do our best to get you through our process as painlessly as possible. We strive for exemplary customer service and encourage you to call or email us with any questions or concerns you may have.  We are here to help you!

The Virginia Tech MBA program attracts a student who is interested in thinking differently from the typical MBA graduate. Our students focus on practical, hands-on skill development in small classes, which emphasizes interactive learning.

We Know Our Students By Name

The Virginia Tech MBA program limits each entering cohort to no more than 60 students, which means more interaction between students, faculty, and administration. Key to the experience at Virginia Tech, this interaction results in a challenging environment full of shared perspectives and ideas. The small cohort demands your involvement and facilitates group interaction, which is at the heart of our learning environment.

Dynamic Program

Our students drive the culture and experience at Virginia Tech MBA, by creating new student organizations (Virginia Tech chapter of MBA Women International—2010 cohort), suggesting new curriculum (Information Technology concentration—2011 cohort), and requesting more challenges (1st Annual Case Competition – cohort 2011). In addition to student feedback, we seek guidance from business leaders, alumni, and faculty to ensure that our graduates have the knowledge and skills that are valued by today’s employers and the educational foundation for a productive and evolving career.

The foundation of the 21-month Virginia Tech MBA program is a 52-credit curriculum designed to provide basic business skills in your first year, and then advanced courses with an international perspective in your second year. Choosing a concentration in the second year allows you to customize your education to meet your career goals.

The MBA curriculum pushes you beyond simply learning new material. Unlike an undergraduate style of learning, the MBA curriculum demands that you understand material prior to attending class.  Once in class, your professor will guide you through the practical application of the subject matter, through case study, group work and presentations, class discussions, and guest lecturers.

In 2011 with considerable student input, the MBA Advisory Committee established the Student-Faculty Handbook, which outlines the student and faculty standards and expectations of the Virginia Tech MBA program.

The Virginia Tech MBA Career Experience emphasizes a holistic, proactive, integrated marketing approach to the career search.  In our program, we have merged the academic and career advisers to provide you with seamless advice on how to reach your goals.  Our students have the assistance of the MBA Program’s career and job search advising office, in addition to the university’s Career Services office. Through this unique and customizable approach to internship and job searching, we help students identify and capitalize on their distinctive gifts to determine how their career objectives fit their personal and professional priorities.

A unique organizational structure offers MBA students synergy between academic and career advising. Virginia Tech’s MBA Program has found that these two advisory functions are almost inseparable!

Rather than shuttling between a career services advisor in one office and an academic advisor in another, these functions have been merged such that students may establish and maintain a relationship with one advisor who is adept in both advising arenas.

Core Classes

The MBA degree allows a student to gain a broad perspective of various business disciplines.  Most MBA students come into the program with either no business background, or a previous business degree with narrow focus.  The 10 required core classes introduce a wide range of business functions, and provide the quantitative and analytical foundation for the more rigorous, advanced classes in the second year. A final spring class—Strategic Management—holistically summarizes the core classes, providing students with a firm understanding of the integration of the different function.

Tuition

The Virginia Tech MBA offers students an outstanding education at a competitive price. We are confident that the quality and cost of our MBA offers you an incredible return on investment. In addition to our value-priced education, the town of Blacksburg, offers our students an affordable cost of living while earning their MBA.

Because Virginia Tech is a state school, students have the opportunity to reduce their tuition by establishing Virginia residency.  View the Graduate School’s In-State Residency and Tuition page for more information.

Annual tuition and fees 2013-2014:

  • State Resident: $16,313
  • Non-VA Resident: $27,166

The MBA program requires a mandatory $3900 annual MBA fee.  This fee covers the cost of career advising for students and other administrative costs. Simultaneous degree program students are required to pay the MBA fee for both years of the program. There is no additional charge for candidates interested in the Simultaneous Program.

Please note: Tuition and Fees are for the 2013-2014 academic year, includes the $3,900 annual MBA fee for full-time students and subject to change. Please view the Bursar’s Office website for more information.
