Regular Students
Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited university and a GMAT score of 600 or higher, or a GRE score of 154 or higher, are admitted to the program as regular students with no restrictions.
Provisional Students
Provisional Admission to the MBA Program is open to applicants whose GPA is below the minimum of 3.0, but is above 2.75, as required by Graduate School. The applicant must demonstrate other experience or qualifications that show the potential to undertake graduate study. A GMAT score of 600 or higher, or a GRE score of 154 or higher, is required.
After taking 12 credit hours in the MBA program and earning at least a 3.00 GPA, a student is changed to Regular status by the Graduate School.
Commonwealth Campus Students
Prospective students may choose to apply as Commonwealth Campus students prior to being fully admitted into the MBA Program. In this case, students must first meet GPA and/or GMAT/GRE minimums to be admitted into the MBA program as Commonwealth Campus students and will then be enrolled in only one MBA foundation course. This provides the applicant with more time to complete his/her application packet and to be considered for regular admissions status in the following semester.
All Commonwealth Campus students interested in attending MBA courses must first be admitted by the MBA program.
Students enrolled in an MBA course under Commonwealth Campus status, who decides to pursue the MBA from Virginia Tech must submit a new online application to enter the MBA program. A non-refundable application fee is required.
Graduate Assistantships
Some students are given the opportunity to work as graduate assistants within the university. These assistantship opportunities require the student to perform such duties as helping faculty with class administration or research for 10 or 20 hours a week. Students with assistantship positions are often awarded tuition scholarships to cover one-half or all of the full-time tuition, a waiver for all out-of-state tuition and a monthly stipend.
