The Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree program at the University of North Dakota emphasizes the development of mid-to upper-level managers, for organizations of all sizes and types. The program seeks to develop knowledge of advanced business functions, decision-making skills and understanding of internal and external factors affecting management of organizations.

The Program emphasizes planning, organizing, operating and controlling an enterprise. Central to the curriculum is the manager's responsibility for diagnosing, isolating, and defining problems, evaluating alternative courses of action, and making effective decisions. The MBA program is designed with strong one-on-one student-faculty interaction. The classroom element of the program is focused more on the quantitative aspect of business. The M.B.A. degree program is designed to attract and accommodate those with non-business degrees as well as those who graduated in business fields.

The College of Business and Public Administration is one of a select group of schools in the United States and Canada whose graduate M.B.A. Program and undergraduate business programs are accredited by AACSB International Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

BA Program Requirements

1. A minimum of 33 semester credits. The program includes a non-thesis and thesis option. The non-thesis option consists of 24 MBA curriculum credits and sufficient cognate electives to total 33 semester credits. The thesis option consists of 24 MBA curriculum credits, thesis course BADM 998 (4 credits), an approved research methods course (3 credits) and a cognate elective (3 credits), totaling 34 semester credits.

2. At least one-half of the credits must be at or above the 500-level electives. A maximum of one-fourth (usually 8-9 semester credits) of the credit hours required may be transferred from another institution.

3. Cognate elective courses for the non-thesis option total 9 semester credits and for the thesis option total 3 semester credits.

4. The requirement of the final examination for the MBA degree is satisfied by the successful completion of MGMT 585, Advanced Strategic Management. MGMT 585 has four prerequisites that MUST be completed prior to enrollment; these courses are ACCT 509, FIN 501, MGMT 515 and MRKT 510.

5. Completion of required courses.

Admission to Approved Status requires:

  1. Applicant must adhere to the UND Graduate School standards for admission. Click here to see the Grad School standards.
  2. Applicants must hold a four-year or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  3. Completion of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) with a score that equals or exceeds an overall score of 500. In certain circumstances, applicants may substitute the GRE or LSAT for the GMAT (with similar percentile scores expected to those noted above). This situation will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  4. An overall grade point average of at least 3.00 in the undergraduate degree program or at least 3.25 for the last two years, or equivalent, of undergraduate work (based on 4.00 scale).
  5. Command of the M.B.A. Prerequisite Curriculum. This command is demonstrated by having satisfactorily completed coursework or testing out of all of the courses found in the M.B.A. Prerequisite Curriculum. An individual may be provisionally admitted if all but nine (9) credits of the M.B.A. Prerequisite Curriculum have been completed as of the date of application. All remaining M.B.A. Prerequisite Curriculum courses must be completed within one year of program admission. During this time, a provisional student will be allowed to take no more than nine credits of graduate coursework. It is critical that all course prerequisites are followed as the initial courses are taken in the program.                    MBA Prerequisites Checklist

  • A Composite index score of at least 1010 determined by the formula: (GMAT) + [200 x (overall undergraduate gpa)].
  • A Composite index score of at least 1060 determined by the formula: (GMAT) + [200 x (last two years or equivalent undergraduate gpa)].
