This is the perfect course to start your career in nails because you also get a full Level 2 Nail Technicians kit. Like all UK Open Learning courses, your tutor will be there to help every step of the way, and we have designed this course into bite sized sections so you can fit your study into your busy life.

Working in the beauty industry is both interesting and varied. Job satisfaction is high. As a Nail Technician, you would usually work in a salon with other beauticians, hairdressers etc. Or you can, if you wish, decide to be your own boss and run a 'mobile' business, visiting your clients in their own homes. Whatever path you choose, it's a job you'll love doing and you'll make new friends too!

At UK Open Learning we pride ourselves on our friendly and supportive tutors. Your tutor support will start as soon as you receive your course and will be valid for 12 months. All our tutors are highly qualified with extensive experience in supporting distance learning students. You contact your tutor via email and they are responsible for marking assignments answering your questions and guiding you through the course to ensure you are ready for your examinations.

No qualifications are necessary to study this course; it is open to anybody. At UK Open Learning we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to further their career and learn new skills.

We recommend you spend approximately 110 hours of your time studying for the Level 2 Nail Technician Award. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 2 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 4 hours a week you could complete it in six months.

On the course you'll learn all about manicuring nails; decorating nails with coloured varnish, glitter, gems or special designs; applying false nails or nail extensions; cleaning nails and also discussing with your clients what would be most suitable for them. You'll also learn to check for signs of nail disease and the importance of following careful hygiene procedures.

This course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor following NCFE guidelines. This means that your qualification will be awarded according to your performance on assessments rather than by taking an exam.

NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland
