Not sure which course to pick? Please read on: You love helping others look beautiful and radiant, and wish to specialise yourself in beauty. However, before choosing a course, you need to consider some things. This guideline gives you a clear overview of what is of importance.
<!--stop-->First, ask yourself these questions:
- Which qualifications do I need? Am I still of school age?
- Do I want a short course or a full education programme?
- Do I want general or specialised training?
- Do I want a full-time or part-time (i.e. 2 or 4 daily periods a week) course?
- What’s my level?
- Do I want to study at home or attend school?
If you want to learn everything about the use of cosmetics, you can do a course to become a cosmetician. If you want to learn that and more about the whole range of possibilities and techniques in the area of beauty and external care, you can follow an education programme to become a beauty therapist. This will even teach you about stimulating a person’s inner beauty through relaxation. A facial, hand and feet care, epilation and giving personal advice, it’s all part of the training.
Which courses are on offer for you?
On offer are education programmes for young people who are still of school age, as well as programmes for adults who no longer have to go to school. Make sure you choose the course that is right for you.
If you are under eighteen and of school age, you will have to choose the full-time programme. Adults however, can also choose this option. Is your schedule constrained due to commitments, for instance because of work or children? Then attending school five days a week won’t be possible, but maybe one or two days will. A part-time course with evening classes could be just what you’re looking for. Depending on how much time you can invest, you can obtain your diploma or certificate within one or two years.
Which level suits you best?
Entry requirements differ greatly, depending on the education programme or training course. Requirements also vary depending on what skills you wish to learn and/or need, and if you want to work as a fully qualified beauty therapist. For instance, a basic course can start at NVQ level 2. With a NVQ level 3 course, you can work as a fully qualified beauty therapist and also specialise in massage treatments, for example. Check out the individual courses for more details, and think about the possibilities on offer.
If you already are a fully qualified beauty therapist, you might want to learn complicated techniques such as massage using the pinching technique, connective tissue massage and manual lymphatic drainage. Would you rather become skilled in electrical epilation or skin camouflage? Perhaps you fancy the eastern massage of Shiatsu. Are you in fact a budding acne specialist? It’s all possible!
Distance learning?
Because of the different levels, you should always check out the entry requirements beforehand. Courses with lower level entry requirements offer the possibility of distance learning. You could of course opt for distance learning simply because it matches your lifestyle perfectly, regardless of your qualifications.
If you opt for distance learning, but have difficulty in choosing the most suitable provider, just request some brochures for comparison. If there is little difference in content, costs and study requirements, follow your intuition and see which brochure most appeals to you.
A different beauty course?
Apart from short and extensive courses in the area of beauty, there is also specialised training on offer for becoming a tanning consultant, Reiki therapist or foot reflexologist, to name but a few examples. You can also follow a course in aromatherapy, massage, cosmetology and manicure, and acquire more knowledge and practice skills within these areas. Perhaps you’d rather order a basic course, an intensive course or a vocational training in nail art?
Whichever one you pick, whether it is about outer or inner beauty, you will help the world look better!
