Independently, he does Web programming and consulting, and has taught for UC Berkeley Extension for more than 10 years. An elective in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Information Systems and Management

Learn the fundamentals of PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, how PHP functions in the Web’s client-server relationship and how it relates to standard HTML. You gain an understanding of one of the most common uses for PHP: handling the data created by an HTML form. Other topics include writing PHP scripts, using PHP to manage data and creating Web applications with PHP. You also learn some of PHP’s more advanced features and security issues.

Prerequisites: You should have a hosted website with 10 MB of disk space, MySQL, and PHP. In general, most Web hosts offer workable sites. Free PHP Web-hosting options are also available.

Future-Term Courses and Enrollments

Courses are offered three terms per year: spring, summer, fall. Information about upcoming courses is available when enrollment opens each term.

  • Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
  • Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
  • Fall term: Enrollment opens in early July. Classes begin in August.
