The MBA program is designed for students from a wide range of backgrounds who are looking for a graduate business education with a dynamic international focus. By offering a menu of flexible schedules and class formats, the MBA Program meets the needs of full-time students and working professionals alike. The students bring professional perspectives to the classroom from industries ranging from healthcare, engineering, education, to cross-border business. Today, the MBA program serves a diverse population of over 360 students from more than twenty countries.

In 2010, 2011, and 2012, UTEP MBA was ranked #1 in the nation by Hispanic Business magazine. This follows a directed effort to develop a competitive MBA curriculum, expand outreach and recruitment efforts, support student success, and diversify the faculty. In keeping with the mission of excellence and access, UTEP’s MBA programs combine quality graduate business education and affordability.

The Full-Time MBA is a 22 month daytime program that delivers an interdisciplinary curriculum in a dynamic cross-border setting with a global focus. Students receive language instruction in business-related Chinese and Spanish. The international faculty brings their industry and research expertise to the classroom. Additionally, students have the opportunity to expand their classroom through a series of international travel and research engagements. Financial support is available for eligible applicants.

UTEP offers the only AACSB Accredited MBA program in the El Paso/Cd. Juarez region. The UTEP College of Business Administration has earned AACSB Accreditation for both its Business Administration and Accounting programs.

Most challenging achievements and the future

Excelencia in Education recognized and honored UTEP's MBA program on October 3, 2012 as America's top program for increasing academic opportunities and improving achievement for Latino students at the graduate level. UTEP is one of the largest AACSB-accredited producers of Hispanic MBAs in the country, educating more than 360 students annually, 59 percent of whom are Hispanic. Concerted efforts by faculty and staff over the past seven years have resulted in tangible indicators of success. Hispanic graduates went from 27 in 2005 to 78 in 2011. Graduates have enjoyed growing career opportunities with Fortune 500 companies and regional entities.

Differentiating factors

UTEP's MBA program was rated No. 1 for the third year in a row by Hispanic Business magazine's list that rates the effectiveness of the country's universities to attract Hispanic students. The magazine based its findings on several factors: diversity in percent of Hispanic student enrollment, percent of Hispanic faculty members, percent of degrees conferred to Hispanics and the progressive programs aimed at increasing enrollment of Hispanic students. In 2011, the College of Business Administration enrolled 369 graduate students and 224 (60.7 percent) were Hispanic, and 57.4 percent of the M.B.A. degrees earned (78 of 136) were presented to Hispanics.
