Management Information Systems, MS
The Master of Science in Management Information Systems Program (MS in MIS) offers a unique blend of theoretical business coursework and hands-on application that enables graduates to gain practical experience in the design and maintenance of information systems.
According to Dr. Meg Kletke, MIS coordinator and professor of management science and information systems, “The MS in MIS prepares graduates not only to understand business processes and the concepts behind the information systems they work with, but also to develop, modify, use and protect these rapidly-changing computing systems through their technical expertise. Three options, Digital Business Systems, Knowledge Management Systems, and Information Assurance and Security, afford the student opportunities to focus on software design and implementation, information retrieval and analysis, or management of network and information system security to protect information systems against unauthorized intrusion.”
Academic Program
The MS in MIS program facilitates opportunities for professional growth, leadership, friendship and personal interactions with faculty members and industry professionals. Students gain practical experience by applying the theoretical knowledge acquired in classrooms to real-world projects. This program exposes members to hands-on professional experience, which serves as a great advantage in the competitive job market.
The MIS program does not require prospective students to have a background or a degree in business; however, admitted students may be required to complete Knowledge Prerequisites to strengthen their business skills.
Knowledge prerequisites include areas shown below and may be satisfied by prior coursework, industry experience, or a combination of courses and experience. The program coordinator must approve any previous courses, experience, or combination.
Deficiencies among these can be remedied by the class or classes using the courses listed. Tulsa and distance learning students will need to contact their local community colleges or universities for classes in Visual Basic.NET and one of the following: C, C++, C# or Java. A student must complete any classes necessary to remedy deficiencies before the degree will be issued, but not necessarily before beginning the program.
