The Northern MBA is a rigorous program for future and current entrepreneurs, business managers, financial specialists and non-profit sector leaders. Students of diverse interests and backgrounds are welcomed; evening courses offer flexibility to working professionals. The program focuses on developing a strong foundation of applied learning that inspires innovative analytical thinking and creative problem solving.
Northern is located in a safe, beautiful natural environment along Lake Superior in one of the nation’s Most Livable Communities, rich with culture and recreation. NMU’s College of Business is accredited by the AACSB as one of the best business schools in the world.
Most challenging achievements and the future
Northern attracts highly qualified students, with an
average GMAT score of 620. Northern MBA students rank above the top
30 percent overall in the nation of MBA students taking the
Educational Testing Service (ETS) Exam, an exit evaluation exam
used for assurance of learning.
In order to provide a solid business background to students of any
major, NMU has initiated the Momentum MBA program, which allows
undergraduates in any degree program to add a business minor and
four prerequisite classes and continue on to earn the MBA in just
three semesters.
Differentiating factors
Students learn in a very supportive environment. Faculties
are renowned experts in their field, and learning is enhanced by
visiting executives in residence from the nation's leading
companies. Impressive alumni prove the value of a Northern degree,
such as Howard Schultz, 1975 graduate and chairman of Starbucks,
who said, "Northern was a fantastic place to build self-esteem and
learn who I was and what I wanted to do."
In NMU's annual New Business Venture Competition, students present
their business plans in a contest to win $10,000. In the on-campus
trading lab, students experience a virtual Wall Street brokerage,
with the same technology used in world markets.
The Northern MBA is an excellent value. In-state, out-of-state and
international MBA students pay the same tuition rate.
