Chemistry: Sp hybridization
In sp hybridization, the 2s orbital and a 2p orbital hybridize to form two sp orbitals, each consisting of 50% s character and 50% p character. The front lobes point away from each other (creating a 180° angle between the two orbitals), and the back lobes also point in opposite directions. This results in a linear structure.
Chemistry
Did you know that everything is made out of chemicals? Chemistry is the study of matter: its composition, properties, and reactivity. This material roughly covers a first-year high school or college course, and a good understanding of algebra is helpful.
Hybridization and hybrid orbitals
In this tutorial, we will learn about sp3, sp2, and sp hybridization.
