Our Personal Fitness Trainer course has been specifically designed for those who are seeking the skills and knowledge required in order to begin a career within the fitness industry. The fitness industry is expanding rapidly despite the current economic downturn, there is a high rate of employment within the industry with currently more than 6,000 fitness centres located all across the UK. This means that there has never been a better time to take the first step towards becoming a fully qualified personal trainer.

On completion of the Personal Trainer qualification you will be able to work in a wide variety of roles within the health and fitness industry, for instance you could set up your own business as a personal trainer or you could work in a gym. You will also have the benefit of being able to offer your clients nutritional advice and information on a one to one basis.

The Personal Trainer qualification gives you the knowledge and skills to work with individual and groups of client in a personal training setting.

On completion of this course you will be able to gain employment in any of the major or independent gyms in the UK and you will also qualify for entry on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3 Personal Trainer status.

Most students will complete the theory element of the course in 6 – 8 weeks (although we impose no time limits on this), you can then book onto your practical training which lasts for 6 days (please click on the “Furth Info” tab below for more information on the practical training).

This course is a full qualification listed on the QCF (Qualifications Curriculum Framework) at Level 3 (500/8820/8)

  • If you opt to study for this qualification by the postal method you will receive a binder of all the course notes in the post, however you will still require internet access in order to complete the assignments for this course.

Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health (A/600/9051)

  • Understand the heart and circulatory system and its relation to exercise and health
  • Understand the musculoskeletal system and its relation to exercise
  • Understand postural and core stability
  • Understand the nervous system and its relation to exercise
  • Understand the endocrine system and its relation to exercise and health
  • Understand energy systems and their relation to exercise

Programming personal training with clients (F/600/9052)

  • Understand how to prepare personal training programmes
  • Understand the importance of long term behaviour change for personal training
  • Understand the principles of collecting information to plan a personal training programme
  • Understand how to screen clients prior to a personal training programme
  • Understand how to identify personal training goals with clients
  • Understand how to plan a personal training programme with clients
  • Understand how to adapt a personal training programme with clients
  • Be able to collect information about clients
  • Be able to agree goals with clients

On completion of your course, you will receive the dual award:

Qualification: Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (QCF)

On completion of this course you will receive the Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (QCF) (Qualification Number: 500/8820/8)

Active IQ are one of the UK's leading Ofqual approved awarding bodies, covering Health, Fitness, Sport and Recreation.

Qualification: Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) Level 3

Completion of Stonebridge College's Personal Fitness Trainer: QCF Level 3 qualification will qualify you for entry on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.

The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 160 hrs.
