What if you could continue along your career trajectory at the same time you’re earning a valuable business degree? Designed for rising business leaders who want to move their careers forward while maintaining a work-life balance, the Professional MBA program at the David Eccles School of Business offers personalized education and high caliber networking. Earning the degree has powerful results. According to a recent survey by Bloomberg Businessweek, over the last three years graduates of the PMBA program at the School of Business reported an average salary increase of 29% upon graduation, and that’s just the beginning.

PMBA students complete the program in two evenings a week, over the course of 24 months. Along the way, students gain invaluable knowledge as they are mentored by top-ranked faculty and accomplished, highly motivated classmates. The PMBA program doesn’t just accommodate your existing career, it enhances it. School and work form a mutually beneficial relationship where the management strategies discussed in class can be employed in workday meetings, and where challenges in the office gain a fresh perspective when viewed from campus. Simply put, the Professional MBA program at the School of Business offers you the best of both worlds. And we’re not the only ones who think so. Bloomberg Businessweek and U.S. News & World Report ranks our PMBA program:

  • #1 in the state of Utah
  • #11 in the West
  • #33 among Public Institutions

The admissions committee is committed to individually assessing the merits of each applicant. All components of the application—GMAT, previous academic coursework, work experience, essays, letters of recommendation, and interview—are important. While there are no minimum requirements for these elements, our applicant pool is highly competitive. The class admitted fall 2012 had an average of 570 on the GMAT, 3.4 GPA, and 5.3 years post-undergraduate work experience.

Questions regarding the requirements or application should be directed to the Professional MBA Office at (801)581-6836 or pmba@utah.edu.

    • Two Letters of Recommendation
      • At least one of the recommendation letters must be a professional letter (manager, supervisor, etc.).
      • The letter of recommendation should discuss how long and in what capacity the recommender has known the applicant, as well as the applicant's strengths, weaknesses, personal character, and potential for success in the Professional MBA program.
      • If a GPA is below 3.0, the second letter of recommendation must be from an academic source.

Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above

The University of Utah requires a GPA of 3.0 or above for incoming graduate students. If a GPA is below a 3.0, the David Eccles School of Business must appeal the University of Utah on behalf of the applicant. These applicants are strongly encouraged to address their low GPAs in the optional essay question and submit an academic letter of recommendation.
