Upon registering, you're given an initial six months to complete the program. Should you need more time, you may request a six-month extension at no additional charge.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this program, you'll be able to: Describe the development and history of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Define the differences between the ICD-9-CM, Volumes 1, 2, and 3, and the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. Distinguish between ICD-10-CM (Clinical Modification) and ICD-10-PCS (Procedural Coding System). Identify the developers and cooperating parties involved in the creation of the ICD-10, ICD-10-CM, and ICD-10-PCS. Describe the four major objectives that guided the development of ICD-10, both -CM and -PCS. Understand the structure of an ICD-10-CM code. Navigate the layout of the ICD-10-CM coding manual. Describe the ICD-10-CM Draft Conventions and Section I.A. of the Official Coding Guidelines. Understand the general guidelines from Section 1.B. of the Official Coding Guidelines. Abstract diagnostic statements from the medical record. Identify which documents in the medical record contain diagnostic statements. Differentiate between main and modifying terms and subterms in the Alphabetic Index of the ICD-10-CM Coding Manual. Identify and apply the steps required to use the Alphabetic Index of the ICD-10-CM. Identify and apply the steps required to use the Tabular List of the ICD-10-CM. Apply chapter-specific guidelines and select proper codes from ICD-10-CM, Chapters 1-21. Understand the history and development of the ICD-10-PCS. Describe the layout and guidelines of the ICD-10-PCS. Identify the characters that make up an ICD-10-PCS code and identify each character’s purpose. Understand the terminology used in the layout and structure of the ICD-10-PCS codebook. Define what a table is and how it is used when creating an ICD-10-PCS code. Identify the sections of the ICD-10-PCS and what each section is used for. Understand the differences and similarities between related root operations. Apply the general and root operation-specific guidelines for the ICD-10-PCS appropriately. Perform a search in the index for the appropriate root operation, and determine the best table reference from that search. Apply section-specific guidelines and use the index and tables to select the correct codes from Sections 0 through 9, and B, C, D, F, G and H of the ICD-10-PCS coding manual.

Prerequisites:

In order to take this program, you should have some knowledge of medical terminology. Education in anatomy and physiology is strongly recommended, but not required. This program is for anyone in the healthcare industry who wants to master ICD-10 medical coding. Coding experience is not required.

Materials:

PC Requirements This program is compatible with Windows Vista and later versions of Windows. This program can be taken from either a Mac or a PC. There are no specific computer requirements, other than an Internet connection and email capability. Materials Includeded2go will provide the required textbooks for this program.
