Editing is one of the least taught but most frequently required media skills. This course will help you to develop copyediting and proofreading skills. The course will guide you through each activity involved in transforming a typescript into printed pages, and includes techniques for correcting spelling, punctuation and page layout.

This course is perfect for anyone looking for a career as a Copy Editor or Proof Reader. It covers a wide variety of material from Computers in the editorial process to Book and journal publishing.

At UK Open Learning we pride ourselves on our friendly and supportive tutors. Your tutor support will start as soon as you receive your course and will be valid for 12 months. All our tutors are highly qualified with extensive experience in supporting distance learning students. You contact your tutor via email and they are responsible for marking assignments answering your questions and guiding you through the course to ensure you are ready for your examinations.

You will need a reasonable standard of English, preferably a GCSE grade C or above for this course.

We recommend you spend approximately 110 hours of your time studying for the Editing Award in Interior Design. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 2 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 4 hours a week you could complete it in 6 months.

Unit 1 - Copyediting. Unit 2 - Making the meaning clear. Unit 3 - Getting it organised. Unit 4 - Proofreading. Unit 5 - Computers in the editorial process. Unit 6 - Production processes. Unit 7 - Book and journal publishing.

This course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor. This means that your qualification will be awarded according to your performance on assessments rather than by taking an exam.

Students are assessed through a series of tutor marked assignments based on their application of the course content there is no final exam.  The assignments take the form of a series of structured questions. There is no word count for these assignments, however you have to prove to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions asked.
