XBW1 (4 semester units in Political Science)

Explore the theoretical implications of democracy and justice in this in-depth look at the structure of the U.S. political system. Analyze the basic workings of the Constitution and the institutions of the federal government, including Congress, the presidency, the judiciary and governmental bureaucracy. Examine the system of electoral politics—including parties, interest groups, social movements, public opinion and participation—as well as several areas of public policy: defense, foreign policy, civil rights and liberties, social spending, welfare reform and the economy.

Future-Term Courses and Enrollments

Courses are offered three terms per year: spring, summer, fall. Information about upcoming courses is available when enrollment opens each term.

  • Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
  • Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
  • Fall term: Enrollment opens in early July. Classes begin in August.
