What you will learn
This postgraduate diploma course will provide you with the knowledge, understanding, and skills needed to install, configure and maintain local and wide area networks. You will be provided with hands-on experience of configuring networks at day schools and using online tools.
Simultaneously, the additional Open University materials, assessment and tutorial support provided will enable you to broaden your understanding beyond the Cisco domain and to gain a recognised postgraduate diploma.
As a Cisco Academy, The Open University offers you the opportunity to study the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) programme using the latest CCNP curriculum. On completion of this diploma you will be able to go on and gain industry recognised certification by taking the CCNP examinations. Cisco Systems are the market leader in the supply of networking equipment for the internet and Cisco qualifications are highly regarded in the networking industry.

Time required and cost
To achieve the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Networking you must successfully gain 120 credits. The qualification typically takes two years to complete based on 12-16 hours of study each week. You must complete this qualification within four years from starting the first module to sitting your final exam.
For details on module cost please see the table at the bottom of this page. The total cost of the qualification depends on the modules studied. As a guide the total fee for 2012/13 academic year was £7580.
NB: Each compulsory module has a compulsory day school held in the UK which will incur additional travel and subsistence costs for attendance.

Career impact
Once you have completed the postgraduate diploma course you can then go on to gain industry recognised certification by taking the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) examination.

Entry requirements
You must be prepared for postgraduate study. You must be suitably prepared for study at professional postgraduate level. You are expected to have studied to at least HNC/HND level, or to have had equivalent practical experience.
You will also need to be proficient in English, to an IELTS standard of 6.0. If you are unsure you will be able to take a free English test as part of the registration process.
Classification of course
On successful completion of the required modules you can qualify for a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Networking, entitling you to use the letters PG Dip Adv Net (Open) after your name.
Once you have completed the postgraduate diploma, you can gain the MSc in Advanced Networking by taking a 60-credit research project and dissertation module.
