Novel Writing I: Beginning Novel Writing (Spring 2013)
Receive help getting started and getting structured, whether your goal is writing a novel or molding a series of short stories into a longer piece of fiction. Writing exercises include establishing tone, exploring character, making dialogue tighter and deeper, and using interior monologue. Topics range from sustaining interest as a writer and a reader and understanding the value of an agent to excerpting from a lengthy work for publication in magazines. This course is appropriate for students who have done some writing or those who have taken an introductory writing course.
