French to English Commercial Translation II (Spring 2013)
Description
In this continuation of Commercial Translation I, students acquire an in-depth familiarity with the areas most often encountered by the practicing translator. Subjects are drawn from the fields of financial reporting, accounting and auditing, and the stock market. Students learn how to effectively research highly specialized topics and how to begin building their own terminology databases in terms of content. Special emphasis is placed on dealing with financial terminology, "false friends," and translating in proper register.
