Course 6859: Configuring Terminal Services Core Functionality

Introduction This 2-hour course introduces the Terminal Services server role. It describes how to deploy a terminal server and configure a connection to the server by using the RDC client.

This course covers the following topics:

• Terminal Services server role and role services
• Terminal Server role service installation
• RDC client configuration

This course helps you prepare for exam 70-643: TS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuring.

The prerequisites for this course are as follows:

• Basic understanding of networking concepts.
• Networking collections 6420 and 6421, or TS exam 70-642, or equivalent knowledge.
• Basic understanding of network operating systems.
• Basic knowledge of server hardware. A+ or equivalent knowledge is expected but not required.

This course has the same content as the previous version in an updated viewer with a new look and feel.
Objectives At the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Describe the Terminal Services server role, its role services, and the scenarios in which they are implemented.
• Configure a stand-alone terminal server.
• Configure a Terminal Services client connection.

• A Pentium II, 256 MB RAM with a processor speed greater than or equal to 400 MHZ
• Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
• Adobe Flash 7.0 or higher (1MB disk space needed to install)
• Microsoft Silverlight 4.0 or higher
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 or higher
• Microsoft XML Core Services 3.0 or higher
• A Super VGA monitor with minimum screen resolution 1024x768, with 16-bit color.
• A sound card, and either speakers or headphones (for multi-media audio).
• Internet bandwidth of 56K or faster. Broadband internet access is recommended.

For courses containing Virtual Server-based labs (courses in the IT Professional and Developer Catalog), you will need:

• Microsoft Virtual Server ActiveX control (1MB disk space needed to install)
