Course 5248: Maintaining and Optimizing Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Introduction In this online learning course, you will learn how to perform site backup and restore as well as how to manage disk space and monitor server performance. You will also learn how to troubleshoot performance issues. This course also helps prepare you for certification exam 70-631.

Student Prerequisites:

• Have on-the-job experience implementing, managing, and supporting Microsoft Windows Server 2003, including Internet Information Services (IIS).
• Have working knowledge of networking, for example, TCP/IP and Domain Name System (DNS).
• Recommended on-the-job experience implementing, managing, and supporting Windows SharePoint Services 2.0.

Objectives At the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Implement back up and restore in a WSS 3.0 farm.
• Manage site performance by defining quota templates, applying locks to quota templates, and recovering disk space.
• Monitor the server performance by examining the site collection usage summary and event logs.
• Describe the best practices for troubleshooting the performance issues on different WSS servers.

• A Pentium II, 256 MB RAM with a processor speed greater than or equal to 400 MHZ
• Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
• Adobe Flash 7.0 or higher (1MB disk space needed to install)
• Microsoft Silverlight 4.0 or higher
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 or higher
• Microsoft XML Core Services 3.0 or higher
• A Super VGA monitor with minimum screen resolution 1024x768, with 16-bit color.
• A sound card, and either speakers or headphones (for multi-media audio).
• Internet bandwidth of 56K or faster. Broadband internet access is recommended.
