Introduction In this 2-hour course, you learn how to plan for deploying the 2007 Microsoft Office System in your organization. You learn about the benefits of the new Microsoft Office System File Format, as well as how it differs from previous formats. Additionally you learn about various tools you can use to analyze your current environment and migrate existing Office documents. In the lab, you use these tools in a migration scenario.

  • Experience deploying, managing, and supporting either Windows® client systems or Office System technologies.
  • Familiarity with standard client and application deployment methods, such as RIS, imaging, and SMS.
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory® directory service.
  • Familiarity with the 2007 Office System and Windows Vista™.
Objectives At the end of the course, students will be able to:
  • Prepare for the Microsoft Office System File Format.
    • Describe the benefits of the Microsoft Office system file format.
    • Describe the components of the Microsoft Office system file format.
    • Describe the considerations and methods used to interoperate with earlier versions of the Microsoft Office system.
  • Assess the user environment for the Microsoft Office system.
    • Describe considerations that affect the deployment of the Microsoft Office system client.
    • Describe the functionality of the Office Migration Planning Manager.
    • Describe the purpose of the Office File Scanner.
    • Explain how to provision and use the Reporting Database.
    • Describe how to obtain and read results of an OMPM analysis.
    • Describe how to use the Microsoft Office File Conversion Tool to convert files to the Microsoft Open XML format.

  • Microsoft Silverlight 4.0 or higher
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 or higher
  • Microsoft XML Core Services 3.0 or higher
  • A Super VGA monitor with minimum screen resolution 1024x768, with 16-bit color.
  • A sound card, and either speakers or headphones (for multi-media audio).
  • Internet bandwidth of 56K or faster. Broadband internet access is recommended.
