Introduction Almost all organizations are looking for ways to
decrease the cost and complexity of providing an information
technology (IT) infrastructure. Today, virtualization has become a
key component in developing an efficient and cost-effective IT
strategy. This course introduces virtualization, and describes how
virtualization relates to server, desktop, and application
environments. This course also introduces some of the critical
planning components that you must consider when you are
implementing virtualization. Before you can deploy a Microsoft®
Hyper-V™ virtualization solution successfully, you must ensure that
you have all of the necessary hardware and that you have
identified, and prepared to meet, the basic input/output system
(BIOS) or the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)
requirements. After installing the Hyper-V server role in Windows
Server® 2008 R2, and configuring the server properties, you can
begin creating virtual machines and virtual hard disks on the
server. This course explores the creation of the Microsoft Hyper-V
virtual machines and their associated virtual hard disks (VHDs),
and details the options available for virtual machines and VHDs.
This course also provides details on how to plan the deployment of
Hyper-V hosts and virtual machines. This course is a subset of the
content offered in the Microsoft Learning Collection 10215A:
Implementing and Managing Microsoft Server Virtualization, and it
can help prepare learners for the Microsoft Learning certification
exam 70-659 TS: Windows Server 2008 R2, Server Virtualization.
Objectives At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- In this course, you will describe the Microsoft virtualization
solutions, and explain how you can use them to address many of
today’s IT infrastructure issues. You will also install and
configure the Hyper-V Server Role, settings, and virtual networks.
You will create and configure Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines
and their associated VHDs, manage virtual machine snapshots, and
plan the deployment of Hyper-V hosts and virtual machines.
