The QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 is a nationally recognised qualification based on the Health and Social Care National Occupation Standards approved by Skills for Care & Development. The award will confirm knowledge, skills and competence for those working with adults and children across all social care settings, including residential settings, primary care environments, domiciliary services, day services and supported living.
This qualification is ideal if you are working as an experienced care worker in health and social care or you are volunteering in a similar setting. The qualification will confirm competence for roles such as:
• Senior care assistants/support workers/key workers in
residential settings, domiciliary services, day services
• Senior healthcare assistants / support workers in community care,
primary care, and acute health environments
• Senior support workers in supported living projects
• Community-based senior care assistants/ support workers/key
workers, including those working in specialist areas eg dementia,
learning disabilities
• Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they
support or their families
• Emerging new types of workers & multidisciplinary health
roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models
In order to complete this course you will need to have a work placement in a social care setting. It is recommended that you spend approximately 100 hours in a Real Work Environment.

This course includes the following lessons:
Unit 1: R/601/1436 Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
The unit introduces ways to address the dilemmas, conflicts or
complaints that may arise where there is a duty of care.
The learning outcomes for this unit are:
Understand how duty of care contributes to safe practice
Know how to address conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between an
individual’s rights and the duty of care
Know how to respond to complaints
Unit 2: A/601/8574 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
This unit introduces the important area of safeguarding
individuals from abuse. It identifies different types of abuse and
the signs and symptoms that might indicate abuse is occurring. It
considers when individuals might be particularly vulnerable to
abuse and what a learner must do if abuse is suspected or
alleged.
The learning outcomes for this unit are:
Know how to recognise signs of abuse
Know how to respond to suspected or alleged abuse
Understand the national and local context of safeguarding and
protection from abuse
Understand ways to reduce the likelihood of abuse
Know how to recognise and report unsafe practices
Unit 3: M/601/3467 Understand sensory loss
This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to appropriately support individuals with sensory loss.
The learning outcomes for this unit are:
Understand the factors that impact on an individual with sensory
loss
Understand the importance of effective communication for
individuals with sensory loss
Understand the main causes and conditions of sensory loss
Know how to recognise when an individual may be experiencing sight
and / or hearing loss and actions that may be taken
Unit 4: J/601/3538 Understand the process and experience of dementia
This unit covers the knowledge and skills needed to understand dementia and its impact on an individual, as well as to facilitate person-centred care for individuals with dementia.
The learning outcomes for this unit are:
Understand the neurology of dementia
Understand the impact of recognition and diagnosis of dementia
Understand how dementia care must be underpinned by a person
centred approach
Unit 5: J/601/1434 Promote communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
The unit explores the central importance of communication in
such settings, and ways to meet individual needs and preferences in
communication. It also considers issues of confidentiality.
The learning outcomes for this unit are:
Understand why effective communication is important in the work
setting
Be able to meet the communication and language needs, wishes and
preferences of individuals
Be able to overcome barriers to communication
Be able to apply principles and practices relating to
confidentiality
Unit 6: A/601/1429 Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
The unit introduces the concepts of personal development and
reflective practice which are fundamental to such roles, and ways
to implement these.

Study Hours
